DUTIES: Design, own, execute and report on long term tests. Perform test planning, develop standard operating procedures, and execute to accomplish test objectives. Develop detailed instrumentation maps and identify data acquisition requirements. Collaborate with design, system, and asset management groups to understand application of component, interactions at the sub-system and system level. Understand the environment and performance of fielded components and provide feedback to supplier and sustaining engineering groups as part of continuous improvement. Oversee maintenance and calibration of testing equipment to ensure accuracy and reliability. Maintain detailed records of testing procedures, and results, and provide comprehensive reports to stakeholders. Inspect and perform electrical characterization of test articles. Troubleshoot test setups and use test equipment to debug issues. 10%-20% domestic and international travel.
REQUIREMENTS: Bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering, materials engineering, or a related field, or foreign degree equivalent; and five years of progressive, post baccalaureate reliability or test experience. Alternatively, employer will accept a Master’s degree in mechanical engineering, materials engineering or a related field or foreign degree equivalent; and 3 years of reliability or test experience.
Position also requires 3 years of experience with designing and scaling up test rigs for accelerated life testing; 3 years of experience performing and designing tests for mechanical and electromechanical devices; 3 years of experience using test equipment like temperature, humidity, UV, High altitude, Salt fog, mixed gases, dust chambers, vibration tables for environmental testing; 3 years of experience utilizing failure analysis tools like X-ray analysis and cross-sectioning to understand root cause and drive resolution for failures originating in testing; 3 years of experience utilizing programming/scripting (Python, LabVIEW, MATLAB) for test automation, data analysis and processing; 2 years of experience with industry standards (ASTM, SAE, ISO, IEC, UL), testing regulations and compliance requirements; 3 years of experience operating data acquisition systems; 2 years of experience with manufacturing processes, including machining, welding and fabrication; 3 years of experience in understanding of physics of failure for mechanical and electromechanical devices and ability to design tests based to target failure modes; 2 years of experience in using design tools like Altium and Arena; 2 years of experience in using documentation and test planning tools like Confluence and JIRA; and 3 years of experience leading cross-functional meetings with mechanical, electrical, firmware, manufacturing teams to discuss test plans, test reports and resolve failures arising from tests.
