JOB TITLE:   STAFF RESEARCH ASSOCIATE

JOB DUTIES: Responsible for project coordination for day-to-day operations of genomics platform;  plan and delegate tasks on QC and sequencing operations; track progress to ensure timely delivery of high quality data (25%).  Manage vendor relations, and conduct troubleshooting of instruments and workflows (10%).  Responsible and accountable for automation process development, execution and training within the Genomics platform.  Maintain various liquid handling instruments (5%).  Perform established automated library prep processes (5%).  Plan, develop, and implement new automated library prep processes and train junior staff on automated workflows (10%).  Perform ad hoc project requests,  troubleshoot custom sample, process and documentation issues (15%).  Manage sample and metadata from users using custom apps and LIMS (5%). Manage user relations, lead consultation meetings and gather user needs and requests, and help users to troubleshoot documentation and experiment issues (5%). Train junior RAs and users (including scientists, RAs, and graduated students) on processes, instruments, and protocols (5%). Work with team to improve process of data generation workflows (5%).  Work with scientists to optimize NGS assays, evaluate new technologies, run proof of concept assays, and generate data (2%).  Write, update, and maintain Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) (5%).  Effectively document and communicate results and progress (3%).  

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:    

Master of Science degree or foreign equivalent in biotechnology, genomics, molecular biology, biochemistry, biology or related field, and 4 years of experience in genomics, molecular biology, biochemistry, biology or related field.
Experience must include:
•    Four (4) years of professional experience with genomics/ NGS (in particular the Illumina platforms) operations.
•    Four (4) years of professional experience with NGS library prep and QC techniques.
•    Four (4) years of professional experience with LIMS/ELN systems.
•    Two (2) years of Hands-on professional experience developing workflows on automated laboratory systems and high-throughput systems.
•    Four (4) years as self-starter, with demonstrated problem solving skills and ability to troubleshoot technical issues.
•    Four (4) years of project management and organizational skills.
•    Four (4) years of experience with oral and written communication.

In the alternative, employer will accept a bachelor’s degree or foreign degree equivalent in biotechnology, genomics, molecular biology, biochemistry, biology or related field, and 6 years of progressive, post-baccalaureate experience in genomics, molecular biology, biochemistry, biology or related field. 
Experience must include:
•    Six (6) years of professional experience with genomics/ NGS (in particular the Illumina platforms) operations.
•    Six (6) years of professional experience with NGS library prep and QC techniques.
•    Six (6) years of professional experience with LIMS/ELN systems.
•    Four (4) years of Hands-on experience developing workflows on automated laboratory systems and high-throughput systems.
•    Six (6) years as self-starter, with demonstrated problem solving skills and ability to troubleshoot technical issues.
•    Six (6) years of project management and organizational skills.
•    Six (6) years of experience with oral and written communication.

Experience may be gained concurrently.  

Position full-time, 40 hours per week, with Arc Research Institute dba Arc Institute, located in Palo Alto, CA.

SALARY:  Base salary range for this position is $104,500 - $147,000. These amounts reflect the range of base salary that the Institute reasonably would expect to pay a new hire or internal candidate for this position. The actual base compensation paid to any individual for this position may vary depending on factors such as experience, market conditions, education/training, skill level, and whether the compensation is internally equitable, and does not include bonuses, commissions, differential pay, other forms of compensation, or benefits. This position is also eligible to receive an annual discretionary bonus, with the amount dependent on individual and institute performance factors.
