JOB DESCRIPTION: Apple Inc. has multiple positions available for Manufacturing Design Engineers in Cupertino, California. Monitor selection, implementation, and optimization of manufacturing for soft goods products. Work across multi-functional teams in Product Design and Industrial Design to assess product features for manufacturability and recommend capable processes and equipment. Plan, propose, and monitor execution of experiments to drive design, development and supply chain decisions. Plan and monitor validation exercises to demonstrate process feasibility and long term capability. Identify process opportunities/risks and drive plans to meet key program targets inclusive of cycle time, labor, space, and equipment. Review development activities at supplier locations and serve as point of escalation for critical process related issues. Review part mechanical design documentation to ensure alignment with process capability, and provide feedback. Monitor supplier technical team process development and data gathering activity, set clear goals, and provide feedback. Establish validation procedures to determine acceptance of tooling into development builds and mass production. Monitor supplier tool design, process flow, equipment selection, DFM, and DOE proposals. Identify shortfalls and corrective actions to ensure design compliance. Assess supplier readiness to support build events and production ramp, identify risks, and plan mitigations. Define and review line qualification criteria with the supplier to scale up mass production to meet key production metrics. Travel required 30%.
